As the Hospital Burns
I had a doctor swear at me yesterday afternoon. “Bullshit. This is just bullshit.” These were is final angry words as he hung up the phone leaving me with no time for rebuttal. Why was he angry? I had just sent him his new email address at the hospital and he didn’t like it.
Yup. He was angry because he wanted his email to read sfmurray@hospital.org instead of fmurray@hospital.org. This was a picayune matter to be hurling insults at in an irate fashion.
Nonetheless, it angered me to the point that I was unable to respond. So, I wrote a letter to Information Services, stating that Dr. Murray did not like his email address (how childish does that sound!) My first draft warned I.S., with the exact language he had used. My intention was to send a copy to his office with the words in print so he could see how much of an ass he made himself out to be during our phone conversation. However, cooler heads prevailed and I simply faxed him the I.S. confirmation with a comment stating that I had really enjoyed our conversation.
Within the hour, Dr. Murray was on the phone with an apology for his rude manner and harsh language.
I had won, but what of Dr. Marco who still had not discovered the secret entrance to the physician's lounge?
