Prelude to a Post About Film

Over the past few weeks I have had the opportunity to re-acquaint myself with that uniquely American past-time of watching summer block-busters. With bated breath and the hopes of a couple hours entertainment, I plunk my hard earned money on the counter in exchange for tickets. But with the consistency of atomic clock, Hollywood has done nothing but disappoint me. Each time I enter the theatre with a sense of hope and each time I leave it filled with disappointment.

After this Friday (the opening of "The League of Extraordinary Gentleman"), I will likely finally concede that Hollywood is no longer interested in making good films and that Hollywood is now focused solely on making profitable films. Which is just sad. If our films are a reflection of our culture then our culture is a hollow ball covered in technological razzle dazzle. Oh, if you haven't seen it yet, Terminator 3 is Terminator 2 but with tits.
