The FCC vs. Martha Stewart Brings Forth The Poor PartyAs I predicted in this past post, a new leader is in the process of being born!
Now, we have Martha Stewart on the front pages. I could care less about this woman's investment trouble. The fact that she is on the front page is proof that our media landscape has changed for the worse and that Mr. Powell and his unfounded assumptions regarding where Americans receive their news from has dealt another death blow to media access for local public discourse. We are losing forums within which to debate public policy and the American way of life. What can you do? Well, at this point I think it's a lost cause to go through established channels such as the Democratic or Republican parties. Instead, we should use the tools the constitution provides (while they are still there) and start another political party call "The Poor Party." I think it has a nice ring to it. A majority of Americans can identify just with the Poor Party's name! The Poor Party: We are the people who don't have jobs, healthcare, access to higher education or media, retirement plans, or childcare. We are your service professionals, your teachers, your government employees, your healthcare workers, and your unemployed. Who will lead our Poor Party to victory?? We only have to wait for the federal government to take Martha Stewart's millions away and we will have our first presidential candidate! Martha for the Poor Party! Martha for President! That who is getting my vote. Posted by Monkeyspit at March 5, 2004 1:35 PMComments
Boy, I hate it when I wax political. Posted by: Monkeyspit at March 5, 2004 2:43 PMi liked it ms. since moving to hong kong, i've been faced with the question of what is freedom and what does it mean to me, what it means to different people. for me still, a great part of freedom comes from the effort of critical thinking and it is apparent that you still have it as well.
