Thus, always, to ...

I missed July 9. Well, I didn't miss it, instead enjoying it from beneath the warmth of the blanket of freedom. This, of course, is not true for most. July 9 was an anniversary of shame and despotism in Iran. Many large protests were planned to commemorate this day, seeking freedom and reform for the oppressed Iranian people. The tyrants of Iran, the Ayatollah and his murderous fanatics, chose instead to threaten the words of freedom with arms. So the protests were minimized, in rightful fear of lives. The picture above is just a small display of the result of calling for liberty in the land of despotism. It was taken in the aftermath of a raid at a university by Iranian forces.

Sic Semper Tyrannis.

UPDATE: Canadian photographer on deathbed due to beating at hands of Iranian theocratic despots. But, hey, the Iranian tyrants have handpicked the doctor to examine the woman in a coma. Thank Allah for that small favor, eh. (Link found at The Corner.)

Chloe,
Unfortunately, this is only the tip of the iceberg. It's quite easy to live the lives we do, with all that we have (even those of us who grew up without too much) and take such lack of oppression for granted. Freedom doesn't mean security, of course. But it does mean liberty. Benjamin Franklin and our founding fathers understood this. We have the chance to help others be that much more free, and we should use that opportunity to provide assistance. And, in any event, on a more pragmatic level, no two democratic nations have gone to war with each other.
